Sleep Tech Innovator Dr Andrew Tucker Joins Sleeptite as Director of Research and Development

Sleeptite announced today the appointment of Dr Andrew Tucker as the company’s Director of Research & Development.

Dr Tucker, who has extensive experience in both sleep health and MedTech device development and commercialisation, joins Sleeptite at a crucial time for the company as it embarks on the path of commercialising REMi(R) – the company’s non-invasive night-time monitoring and fall prevention system.

Dr Tucker will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the REMi program, including product development, research, field trials and commercialisation. He will lead a cross-functional team consisting of full-stack developers, hardware developers, software developers, electronics engineers, and manufacturers as Sleeptite works towards commercialising REMi for the aged care market and beyond.

Sleeptite CEO Cameron van den Dungen said Dr Tucker’s appointment was a major boost for the company.

“Being able to attract someone of the calibre of Andy to Sleeptite speaks volumes about the REMi system and what we as a company are aiming to achieve,” van den Dungen said.

“Andy has been a passionate supporter of Sleeptite for many years and I always hoped we would be able make the stars align to bring his vast knowledge and expertise to our company. I am excited to welcome him aboard and about what our team will be able to achieve under his direction,” he continued.

With over 17 years of experience in institutional R&D, industry innovation and commercialisation in the areas of sleep health, wellbeing, performance, and occupational safety, Dr Tucker will lead the charge on taking the REMi system from functional prototype to a market-ready product.

"It is a privilege to be joining Sleeptite and to be leading the commercialisation of REMi - a ground-breaking innovation that I know will make a real difference in people's lives,” Dr Tucker said.

“I’m incredibly excited about the innovative sensor technology that forms the backbone of the REMi system and the possibilities this technology has, not just for aged care, but an endless variety of industries and challenges,” Dr Tucker continued.

Prior to joining the Sleeptite team, Andrew was the inaugural director of the Australian Sleep and Alertness Consortium (ASAC) - the research and development division of the Sleep Health Foundation – where he led the establishment of ASAC to build upon the outputs, expertise and legacy of the Australian Government funded Cooperative Research Centre for Alertness, Safety and Productivity (Alertness CRC).

Andrew holds a PhD in Psychophysiology and continues to be involved in applied research through an adjunct academic appointment at the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health, Monash University.
